Inside UDA Plans to Build Party Leadership School

Cleophas Malala, the secretary general of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), announced that the party intends to establish a leadership school at its newly designated headquarters.

Malala shared this plan on December 1, following a meeting with a delegation from the Communist Party of China, headed by MAO Dingzi, a member of the Ministerial Board of the Organisation Department of the CPC Central Committee (ODCPC), and China’s Ambassador to Kenya, Zhou Pingjian, at the party’s headquarters.

“Together, we resolved to ensure that our parties increase cooperation in the areas around leadership, exchange programmes, and the establishment of the UDA Party Leadership School,” Malala said.

The officials also reached an agreement to collaborate on enhancing capacity building and fortifying party structures and programs.

“Our Chinese counterparts will also support the UDA party in areas of ICT as we prepare to conduct our first-ever grassroots elections next April. We are also working closely with the CPC as it moves to build party offices in the country that will have a leadership school,” Malala added.

UDA and CPC have also committed to reinforcing collaboration in the realms of trade, foreign direct investments, infrastructure, and scholarships.

“Later, I introduced the CPC team to the UDA party secretariat and party departments,” Malala further said in a post on his official X social media platform.

Malala indicated that the election is scheduled to take place in three phases in April 2023. This decision was reached following a meeting of the National Steering Council (NSC), which was chaired by President William Ruto in his capacity as the party leader.

“Following a National Steering Council (NSC) meeting held on November 18, 2023, and chaired by the party leader. The United Democratic Alliance party (UDA) wishes to notify all members and aspirants that the grassroots elections initially scheduled for December 9, 2023, have been postponed,” said Malala.

The elections are set to occur in three segments on April 12, 19, and 26, 2024.
