Salasya’s New KSh 9 Million Land Cruiser Stoned by Goons
Mumias East MP Peter Salasya’s vehicle suffered damage in Bulimbo, Matungu constituency, where he was present at a funeral with other leaders.
The legislator, while highlighting the extent of the harm to his car, implicated youths whom he asserted were supported by Governor Fernandes Barasa.
Salasya claimed that Barasa felt threatened by his increasing popularity in Kakamega.
This incident occurred shortly after Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga had mediated a truce between them, urging cooperation for the benefit of their constituents.
However, Salasya withdrew from the truce, expressing the possibility of leaving Azimio if compelled to reconcile with the governor against his will.
“The governor saw my popularity is growing so he decided to sponsor the youths to damage this vehicle. The handshake Raila engineered between him and I won’t actualise. Should anyone force me into the handshake I will quit Azimio,” he said.
Salasya announced his candidacy for the Kakamega governorship in 2027, with the aim of unseating Barasa.
The core of their conflict revolves around the politics surrounding the revival of the Mumias Sugar Company, which has now recommenced operations.
The ongoing tension between Salasya and Barasa has erupted into violence before.
In a recent incident earlier this month, the Mumias East MP had to be swiftly escorted to safety when assailants attacked him while he was addressing a gathering on Sunday, November 12th.
In a video posted on his Facebook account, Salasya revealed that his microphone was abruptly snatched during the incident.
He attempted to defend himself before his security personnel swiftly intervened to shield him.
In his social media statement, Salasya pointed the finger at the governor for the ensuing chaos, alleging that the disorderly youths who posed a threat to him were sent by the governor.
