Rita Waeni head recovered in in Kiambaa, Kiambu County as hunt on the killer goes on
On Sunday, investigators retrieved a human head, suspected to belong to the murdered university student Rita Waeni Muendo, from a dam in Kiambaa, Kiambu County, according to the police.
This discovery provided a lead regarding the possible whereabouts of the killer following the murder of Waeni on January 13 at an apartment in Roysambu. The remaining parts of her body were discovered wrapped in a plastic bag and sheet, positioned near a dustbin.
As the investigation and search for the perpetrator persist, the police have secured and are analyzing the preserved head.
“We have a human head believed to be that of the slain woman but we will say more after probe,” said an officer aware of the probe.
Additionally, some of the belongings of the deceased woman, including her mobile phone, were also recovered. As of now, the motive behind the murder remains unknown.
The investigators overseeing the case have expressed their commitment to pursuing vital leads in order to apprehend the perpetrator. However, they noted that the nature of the murder suggests it may have been carried out by a professional killer.
The motive behind the killer’s decision to cut off the victim’s fingernails remains shrouded in mystery. A postmortem conducted on the body last Friday revealed the absence of nails, adding another layer of complexity to the investigation.
“This person who did all these also tried to clip off the fingernails for reasons which I might not be able to know but for us scientists when we see fingernails clipped off, we think probably the person was trying to hide evidence so that we are unable to get his DNA from the victim,” government pathologist Johansen Oduor told reporters after the exercise.
Detectives are perplexed by the discovery, as the motive behind the killing remains unidentified.
“I don’t know why but in investigations, such nails help in gathering evidence. People fight when dying and DNA evidence can be hidden there,” Oduor said.
Nevertheless, Oduor mentioned the presence of residual fingernails, and samples were collected for additional analysis to assist the police in their inquiries. The autopsy verified that the body had been dismembered, with the head severed and the legs cut off from the trunk.
