Police arrest woman accused of throwing her eight-month-old baby into the Indian Ocean

Law enforcement detained a woman who stands accused of hurling her eight-month-old infant into the Indian Ocean this past Sunday.

According to onlookers interviewed by local media, the woman purportedly threw the baby into the ocean from a ferry as it approached the harbor in the coastal town of Mombasa.

A widely circulated video depicting divers saving the child has gained traction on social media, eliciting a strong reaction from many Kenyans who are both angered by the woman’s actions and relieved at the baby’s rescue.

“[She] was rushed for first aid at the Red Cross Centre, treated and discharged in fair condition and her mother taken to the police station for interrogation,” privately-owned K24 and Citizen TV have both reported, citing the police report of the incident.

Previously, the Kenya Red Cross confirmed that the baby was secure at its rescue center. The potential charges against the woman remain uncertain at this time.
