Natembeya accuses his deputy of dragging him into unnecessary squabbles to derail his development agenda
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has intensified the disagreement with his deputy, Philomena Kapkory, expressing regret over his decision to select her just slightly more than a year into their term.
“I regret picking you (Kapkory) as my deputy, you were even rejected by your community and you cost me the support from the community,” Natembeya, said while speaking in Chepchoina during the launch of a football tournament.
Natembeya has alleged that Kapkory is involving him in unnecessary conflicts, aiming to obstruct his development initiatives for the constituents who entrusted him with their votes.
“When I picked her, the Sabaots asked me where I had gotten her from. I had options, but I settled on her because I wanted to bring peace between my Bukusu community and her community. Little did I know she would turn against me,” asserted Natembeya.
While speaking at a gathering in Chepchoina during the inauguration of the Natembeya football cup, the governor called on his deputy to specify instances where he had wronged her or her community.
“Those from the Sabaot community who are here, go and ask her whether I stopped her from discharging her official duties or refused to respond to the development needs of the community,” he posed.
The governor asserted that his mandate is to serve the public, not an individual, and pledged to remain resolute in his commitment.
He criticized his deputy for allegedly being manipulated by his political adversaries to fuel discord among the Sabaots, diverting his attention from the county’s development agenda.
“We need to serve our people and not fight for selfish agendas. Let us direct our energies on the people’s needs and not our selfish gains,” he said.
He condemned certain leaders for opposing him, claiming that their antagonism arose after he reportedly rejected their illicit proposals or questionable arrangements.
