Kenyan Woman Sally Kimondo clinches a Councillor seat in UK after flooring three other candidates
On Friday, Sally Kimondo, a Kenyan national, secured victory in the Dunstable East Councillor election by outperforming three other contenders with a total of 372 votes.
Known for her role as a social worker, Kimondo is dedicated to assisting Kenyan residents in Luton, Dunstable, and neighboring areas. Her past recognition includes commendation for advocating the rights of Kenyan expatriates.
She ran as a candidate for the Dunstable and Houghton Regis Labour Party, pledging to bring about meaningful social change.
Possessing a Social Work degree from the University of Bedfordshire, Kimondo’s ascent in the political arena can be attributed to her unwavering commitment to her political principles.
“I am a qualified senior Social Worker with a demonstrated history of working in the government administration industry. I have gained experience within the journey of a child and now based within a Safeguarding team,” she wrote on her LinkedIn profile.
Furthermore, Kimondo is the founder and Chair of the highly acclaimed Luton, Dunstable & Surrounding Kenya Community Forum.
In her role as a councillor, she will advocate for the interests of the local Kenyan community and other residents in the area.
“Being an effective councillor requires both commitment and hard work. Councillors have to balance the needs and interests of residents, the political party they represent, and the council,” reads part of the UK government guidelines.
She committed to addressing the issue of anti-social behavior, emphasizing that collaboration with various agencies is essential for fostering community cohesion and resolving this problem.
Kimondo also made promises to tackle the cost of fuel, enhance amenities for residents, address issues like lighting and potholes, and implement various initiatives aimed at improving the overall livability of Dunstable East.
Councillors are elected for a four-year term and have the option of seeking re-election or being replaced by a new candidate. In the event of a councillor resigning, a by-election would be held.
Furthermore, all councillors are entitled to receive a basic allowance for their service.
