    How to Qualify as a Technical Teacher in Kenya: TSC Guidelines

    In Kenya, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is heavily involved in the management of technical instructors. The commission ensures that learners receive a high-quality education by ensuring that TTI educators meet the TSC Technical Teacher standards. This ensures that the overall performance of Kenya’s educational sector is improved.

    Technical teachers play a significant role in the overall educational system. They play an important role in the development of technical education and the enhancement of educational quality. As a result, such teachers should meet Kenya’s minimal TSC requirement for technical teachers.

    TSC standards for technical teachers in Kenya

    Interested individuals with a mean grade of C- in KCSE can become TTI instructors only if they have gone through the following:

    • Certificate
    • Diploma
    • Higher diploma
    • Degree

    How to apply for teacher registration through TSC

    After achieving the fundamental minimum academic requirements for TSC registration as a technical teacher in Kenya, you can apply for registration with the Teachers Service Commission. To be able to accomplish this, you are required to have the following:

    • Kenyan citizens.
    • Certificate for Good Conduct
    • Relevant academic and professional certifications from recognized institutes.
    • A copy of the ID card or passport
    • Passport photograph
    • KRA pin certificate.
    • Completed GP 69 Medical Form.
    • Payment of the registration fee
    • Non-Kenyan citizens.
    • Academic and professional certificates, as well as other documentation of teacher registration, received in Kenya or the place of origin.
    • Certificates for academics and professionals. Foreign institutions that have been accredited and equated by Kenya’s competent public agency.
    • Certification or authorization to teach as a teacher in the country of origin is required.
    • A valid entry/work permit granted by the Department of Immigration.
    • A genuine Certificate of Good Conduct from the competent law enforcement body in the country of origin.
    • Kenya’s Ministry of Education vetting letter.
    • Payment of the registration cost.

    How to Be a TTI Educator in Kenya

    The instructors Service Commission is in charge of recruiting and employing technical training instructors throughout the country. Whenever vacancies arise, the TSC posts them on its official website.

    Interested and eligible candidates must submit properly completed application forms to the technical training schools where they wish to be considered for employment. An interview is extended only to individuals who have made it to the next round.

    To be hired by the TSC as a Technical Training Institute educator, you must meet the following minimal requirements:

    • Individuals must be Kenyan citizens.
    • One must be 45 years of age or less.
    • One has to be registered as a teacher.

    When coming before the recruitment panel for an interview, you should submit the following original professional and academic documents:

    • National identification card
    • CPE/KCPE certificate (including the first attempt certificate if you took the exam twice).
    • KCE/KSCE certificate.
    • Diploma certificate
    • A degree certificate
    • School/college leaving certificates

    The teachers are hired through a competitive selection process, with successful candidates sent to various technical training colleges across the country.
