Herman Manyora Gives President Ruto Political Survival Recipe
Political analyst Herman Manyora recently expressed his views on the current political climate in Kenya, emphasizing the need for President William Ruto to take decisive action to address public discontent.
According to Manyora, his observations are not prophetic but are based on common sense and political experience.
Calls for Immediate Action
Manyora advised President Ruto to fire several ministers and economic advisers, including Treasury officials, to regain public trust.
He argued that such a move would be a politically savvy step, as it would demonstrate the president’s commitment to addressing the nation’s economic challenges.
“Fire David Ndii and the economic advisers, remove Njuguna Ndung’u from the Treasury,” Manyora urged, adding that such actions would be well-received by the public.
Political Sacrifice for Stability
Drawing on historical examples, Manyora highlighted that political leaders often need to make sacrifices to maintain stability.
He suggested that even if the ministers had not committed any significant wrongdoing, their removal could serve as a necessary political sacrifice to alleviate public dissatisfaction.
“President Moi did it all the time. Sacrifice people even if they have done nothing,” he noted.
Focus on County Governments
Manyora advised against targeting county governments and instead recommended cutting unnecessary expenditures at the national level.
He highlighted the deemed unconstitutionality of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and proposed its abolishment as a popular move.
“Remove CDF because it’s unconstitutional. The courts have said so. The MPs will do nothing,” Manyora asserted.
Addressing Unpopular MPs
He emphasized that MPs are currently among the most unpopular figures in the country, and President Ruto could use this opportunity to distance himself from their negative perception.
Manyora suggested that the president should capitalize on this unpopularity by removing certain privileges from MPs, thus positioning himself as a leader who prioritizes national interest over political alliances.
Encouraging Pragmatic Leadership
Manyora also criticized the current advisory system, stating that the president needs advisers who are genuinely committed to the country’s well-being and capable of offering realistic solutions.
He lamented the lack of courage and conviction among current advisers and urged the president to surround himself with individuals who can speak the truth without fear.

Historical Context and Urgency
Referencing the French Revolution, Manyora warned that delayed action could lead to irreversible consequences.
He stressed the urgency of addressing public grievances promptly to prevent escalating discontent. “When you delay, it becomes too little, too late,” he cautioned, urging the president to take immediate steps to rectify the situation.
